Tesla posts record quarterly profit of $ 1.6 billion

Palo Alto Despite the global chip crisis and delivery problems, the US electric car manufacturer Tesla earned more in the third quarter than ever before in a quarter. In the three months to the end of September, profits rose by 389 percent year-on-year to 1.6 billion dollars (1.4 billion euros), as the group of star entrepreneur Elon Musk announced on Wednesday after the US market closed. Sales grew 57 percent to a record $ 13.8 billion.

The e-car pioneer thus significantly exceeded the analysts’ expectations. Investors reacted cautiously, however, the share barely moved after the trading hours. While the automotive industry as a whole has been groaning for months under the semiconductor shortage and other bottlenecks in the supply chains, Tesla has so far coped with the burdens relatively well. In the third quarter, the company brought 241,391 vehicles to customers, around 73 percent more than a year earlier.

It was the sixth quarter of gains for Tesla. The e-car manufacturer recently asked its employees to perform at their best. Employees should make an effort to deal with production problems early in the third quarter.

The US company announced that the expansion of the new factories is still on schedule. In Brandenburg, the tests of the machines are well advanced. It is expected that the final permit will be received by the end of the year.
