Mr. Wybitul, a huge amount of data is believed to have leaked at Tesla. What must the group do?
Tesla faces a whole mountain of tasks. First, the company must determine the facts and eliminate the possible causes. It must be clarified whether and which data is affected, what happened to it and whether and to what extent violations of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) have occurred. If violations have occurred, the company should minimize the resulting damage to those involved as quickly as possible.
Such investigations can take time. How long does Tesla have, and what happens next?
If a company becomes aware of a breach of the protection of personal data, it must report this to the data protection supervisory authorities – unless the data breach is unlikely to result in a risk to the rights and freedoms of the persons concerned. The company must inform the competent authority immediately and if possible within 72 hours.
