manila Unidentified gunmen killed a local politician and five other people in the Philippines. About ten attackers in military uniforms stormed the residence of Roel Degamo, governor of Negros Oriental province, on Saturday and shot the 56-year-old and others, police said. Degamo died shortly afterwards in the hospital. The other five dead are civilians, Degamo’s wife said in a Facebook video.
According to the police, the attack happened in the municipality of Pamplona, about 600 kilometers south-east of the capital Manila. The suspects fled the scene in three vehicles, it said. It is the third deadly attack on a local politician since last year’s elections. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. condemned the act. “My government will not rest until we bring the perpetrators of this insidious and heinous crime to justice.”
