Hamburg Deutsche Telekom has had a record year. Sales increased by 6.1 percent to around 114 billion euros in 2022. The profit (EBIT) even rose by 22.5 percent to 15.4 billion euros. Telekom benefited greatly from exchange rate effects.

Behind the positive development was once again the success of the US subsidiary T-Mobile. It was able to win 6.4 million new contract customers and increased the particularly relevant service revenues by 7.0 percent compared to 2021 to 61.2 billion dollars.

In Germany, Telekom’s sales grew slightly to 24.5 billion euros. The group was able to make gains in mobile communications in particular and increased service revenues by 2.7 percent to 6.4 billion euros.

Telekom developed better than expected by analysts. The level of debt rose year-on-year by 7.8 percent to 142.4 billion euros.

“The upheavals in the world and their consequences do not leave Telekom unaffected either,” said CEO Timotheus Höttges. “Thanks to the consistent implementation of our strategy, we still achieved all of our goals in 2022.”

Four percent more profit than target

In the current year, the group wants to earn even more. The operating profit including leasing costs should increase by four percent to almost 41 billion euros in the current year, the Dax group announced on Thursday in Bonn.

Among other things, the group had parted with its Dutch business last year and sold the radio tower subsidiary GD Towers, which is why Telekom uses a pro forma value from the previous year as a basis. On this basis, the free inflow of funds should climb by at least 40 percent from 11.2 billion euros to more than 16 billion euros.

The T-Share, which was quoted at EUR 21.10 on Thursday morning, recently experienced a surge and broke through the EUR 20 mark for the first time in over twenty years in mid-January.
