The West is pursuing a “comprehensive containment, encirclement and suppression of China,” Xi stormed on Monday. For years, representatives of the Chinese Foreign Ministry have been criticizing the USA in particular more and more harshly – but the fact that Xi, who is usually smiling in public, is making such statements now has a new quality that can be taken as a warning in Europe.

China hopes that Europe will achieve “true strategic autonomy,” the spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry wrote on Twitter shortly afterwards. It is a politely worded warning to European states: do not side with the United States.
