Berlin Now it’s official: Germany is sending Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine, and according to media reports the US government wants to deliver Abrams main battle tanks. The western allies are thus responding to demands from Kyiv to supply them with weapons and equipment.
In view of the next planned offensive, this is urgently needed. The Supreme Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhnyy, speaks of 300 tanks, 600 to 700 BMPs (infantry combat vehicles) and 500 artillery systems that would be needed to restore the old borders before February 24, 2022 – the day of the Russian war of aggression .
According to Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, 300 tanks alone are needed to evacuate some occupied territories, not to win the war.
