Take-Two Interactive has reported a strong Q2 performance for fiscal year 2025, with net sales rising 2% to $1.47 billion and player recurring purchases making up 81% of net bookings. The company anticipates major releases, including Grand Theft Auto VI in fall 2025, and plans to launch 22 core games and several mobile titles by 2027. Notable sales figures were shared for franchises like Grand Theft Auto and NBA 2K, while operational losses of $297.2 million were also noted.

Take-Two Interactive Reports Impressive Q2 Results for Fiscal Year 2025

In a recent announcement, Take-Two Interactive unveiled its financial performance for the second quarter of fiscal year 2025, covering the period from July 1 to September 30, 2024. The publisher has demonstrated robust growth, achieving a 2% increase in net sales, rising from $1.44 billion to $1.47 billion compared to the same quarter last year. Player recurring purchases, including DLC and microtransactions, saw a remarkable 6% increase, now accounting for a staggering 81% of total net bookings. This impressive statistic underscores the significant impact of popular titles such as GTA Online, Grand Theft Auto V, NBA 2K, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Red Dead Online on the company’s revenue. Notably, physical sales constitute a mere 4% of the total revenue, highlighting the shift towards digital purchases.

The distribution of net bookings across platforms is particularly noteworthy: 49% originates from mobile devices, 42% from consoles, and only 9% from PC and other platforms. This trend likely explains the strategy behind the anticipated release of GTA VI, which is expected to launch first on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. However, it’s important to note that the company reported operational losses of $297.2 million.

Upcoming Releases and Major Titles on the Horizon

According to Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, there are several heavyweight titles slated for release in the near future. Following the anticipated launch of Sid Meier’s Civilization VII on February 11, 2025, and WWE 2K25 set for the fourth quarter before the end of March, the next fiscal year promises three blockbuster releases. Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to debut in fall 2025, although details remain scarce since its initial trailer release in December 2023. A nod to Rockstar Games is warranted, particularly in light of past comments by Dan Houser regarding the challenges of releasing a game during Donald Trump’s presidency. With his recent re-election, the hope is that real-world events won’t overshadow the creative narratives being developed by the writers.

In addition to GTA VI, fans can look forward to the releases of Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country, both scheduled for the 2026 fiscal year, specifically between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026. These titles have been previously confirmed for the next calendar year, leaving the first quarter open, which is not surprising given that detailed presentations have yet to occur. The title Judas from Ghost Story Games remains without a release date and has not been showcased since March.

Take-Two’s recent presentation also highlighted impressive sales figures for its franchises:

  • Grand Theft Auto – 435 million units sold, including 205 million for GTA V;
  • Red Dead Redemption – 92 million units sold, with 67 million for RDR2;
  • NBA 2K – 150 million units sold;
  • Borderlands – 89 million units sold, featuring 21 million for Borderlands 3 and 29 million for Borderlands 2;
  • BioShock – 43 million units sold;
  • Civilization – 73 million units sold.

From April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2027, Take-Two plans to release a total of 22 immersive core games, including GTA VI, Judas, and Project ETHOS, alongside 10 mobile titles such as CSR 3, and 5 iterations of previously released games, which includes the recent PC port of Red Dead Redemption.

In an update, Strauss Zelnick clarified to Variety that the launches of Grand Theft Auto VI and Borderlands 4 will not be closely spaced together.

As a side note, the PS5 version of GTA V is currently available for just €14.99 on Amazon and Cdiscount.
