Bangalore A surprisingly large influx of new customers encourages T-Mobile US to announce its third forecast increase of the year. In the year as a whole, the number of new contract customers will add up to 6.2 to 6.4 instead of 6.0 to 6.3 million, the mobile operator predicted on Thursday. In the third quarter, Deutsche Telekom’s US subsidiary added 854,000 users, more than 100,000 more than expected.

The decision to keep prices stable paid off for T-Mobile. Rivals AT&T and Verizon, who opted for increases, only added 708,000 and 8,000 customers respectively.

However, T-Mobile’s revenue fell short of analyst forecasts at $19.48 billion in the past quarter. Profit was $508 million, down from a loss of $108 million in the same period last year.

The company’s stock rose nearly 3 percent in after-hours trading.
