Sweden is massively expanding the infrastructure for electric cars

Stockholm At first glance, the concrete block in Hagastaden, a new district in the heart of Stockholm, looks like a normal parking garage. But if you take a closer look, you will quickly see what makes this multi-storey car park unique: Each of the 1000 parking spaces on the three floors has its own charging point. This means that Stockholm has the largest electric car parking garage in Europe.

“We need to electrify traffic, so we built a parking garage with a charging point at each parking space,” says Daniel Helldén, the city councilor responsible for transport issues. 800 of the planned 1000 charging points are already in operation, the rest will follow in the coming months. Each of the fee-based AC columns charges with up to 22 kW, but according to the operator, can be automatically reduced in order to avoid overloading the network when capacity is high.
