Frankfurt According to Hans Joachim Reinke, the greenwashing allegations against parts of the fund industry are to a certain extent self-inflicted. “Some providers do not even know exactly what they are talking about,” criticized the Union Investment boss in an interview with Handelsblatt. “As a provider, I have to show transparently what I mean by sustainability.”
Reinke sees great opportunities for the cooperative fund company in influencing corporate strategies through active portfolio management – unlike investment funds, for example, which only passively map a certain stock market index.
More and more customers wanted to invest their money according to ecological and social criteria or with a focus on good corporate governance. “If you really want to do sustainability well, then this is the only way to do it, not with index funds.” The regulators now have to quickly clarify open points without overshooting the target, demands Reinke.
