Stoltenberg wants further talks about fighter jets for Ukraine

Selenski apparently criticizes the heads of state of Brazil and Mexico for their position on the Ukraine war

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused heads of state with a neutral stance on the Russian war in his country of populist tendencies. “There are leaders who have not visited Ukraine once and have not seen what brutal Russian aggression has done and why it is so important to defend lives,” Zelenskiy told Mexican lawmakers via video link on Thursday. These heads of state are simply out to “achieve some kind of populism”. To this they said “things like Ukraine is supposedly not ready for peace”.

Selenski was apparently referring to heads of state such as Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He refused to supply arms to Ukraine. In statements made in April, he also blamed both Russia and Ukraine for the war. Lula suggested Ukraine could renounce Russia’s annexed Crimea to end the war. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs ruled out this option. The annexation is considered illegal by many.

Selenski’s criticism may also have been directed at Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Mexico voted to condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine. However, it has refused to impose economic sanctions on Russia. In 2022, López Obrador criticized NATO for supporting Ukraine. This NATO policy is like saying you deliver the weapons and the other party delivers the dead, he said. “It’s immoral.” The war could have been avoided, López Obrador said.
