Stellantis wants to remove responsibility for factories from Opel

Munich Michael Lohscheller had probably seen it coming: Opel is gradually being compressed from the once independent car manufacturer into a brand shell. Before the full extent of the shrinking cure becomes publicly visible, the long-standing boss of the traditional car manufacturer from Rüsselsheim switched to the Vietnamese provider Vinfast Global in the summer at least.

This is not really a career leap, but at least Lohscheller can still act as “General Manager” at Vinfast, meaning he can make strategic decisions himself. At his old place of work, Opel threatens to lose the remaining independence under his successor Uwe Hochgeschurtz. The reason: The parent company Stellantis now wants to withdraw its German subsidiary’s corporate responsibility for its own factories.
