State of Emergency Declared in 10 Provinces Affected by the Earthquake!

A state of emergency was declared in 10 provinces affected by two major earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoganshared information about the situation and works in the region after the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes. He also announced the number of vehicles and crews used in the task in the region.

The President announced that a resource of 100 billion TL was allocated to institutions in the first place for emergency aid and support activities. A state of emergency was declared in 10 provinces.

State of Emergency declared!

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that a state of emergency has been decided for the speedy execution of search and rescue activities and subsequent work. The state of emergency will cover 10 provinces affected by the earthquake for 3 months.

The state of emergency will come into effect directly after the work in the Parliament.

10 provinces were also declared as Disaster Areas Affecting General Life. The names of these 10 provinces have not been officially announced yet.

What will the state of emergency cover?

The President has not yet announced the scope of the state of emergency declared in the region. However, the State of Emergency decision has not been officially approved yet, and the work is expected to be completed in the Parliament and Presidency.

However, as the state of emergency process will cover more than one province, it may lead to the authorization of regional governors. During this process, the Council of Ministers may issue decrees having the force of law. These decrees are submitted to the Parliament for approval.

Fundamental rights and freedoms are not restricted during the state of emergency. In addition, the administration, unlike the martial law, is not in the military, but in the civil.

President Erdogan’s statements:

  • 53,317 search and rescue workers and support personnel are in the wreckage area.
  • 54 thousand tents, 102 thousand beds and other necessities were sent to the region.
  • Additional governors and district governors were appointed to each province affected by the earthquake.
  • A total of 5 thousand health personnel were transferred to the region with nearly 1000 ambulances, 241 UMKE teams and 2 ambulance planes.
  • A large number of security forces within the TAF, thousands of personnel in the land elements, 10 ships of the Navy, 54 high-capacity cargo planes of the Air Force were assigned to search and rescue, evacuation and transportation of aid materials.
  • Thousands of volunteers with search and rescue training and equipment flock to the region under the coordination of AFAD.
  • Thousands of construction machines that will take part in the restoration of the infrastructure are moving towards the region from all over the country.

Reminders to citizens:

  • Do not use the roads leading to and within the earthquake zone.
  • Do not make phone calls except for urgent needs.
