James Earl Jones, one of the most recognizable voices in Hollywood and one of the most famous dubbing artists in the US, has died at the age of 93: The news of Jones’ death, known especially for his unforgettable voice for the character Darth Vader in the Star Wars series, has devastated his fans. Here are the details…
Jones was known around the world for his voice acting as Darth Vader
Born in 1931 in Arkabutla, Mississippi, Jones struggled with stuttering before he achieved his career. However, he overcame this challenge and achieved a huge career that spanned from theater to cinema. Debuting on Broadway in 1958 with the play Sunrise At Campobello, Jones made his big debut at the Cort Theater, which would later become known as the James Earl Jones Theater.
The biggest turning point in James Earl Jones’ career came in 1977 when he voiced the character Darth Vader in the Star Wars series. Interestingly enough, Jones was not even credited for voicing Darth Vader at the beginning. Vader’s cool and intimidating voice transformed Jones into a worldwide phenomenon.
However, Jones is remembered by a wide audience not only with Star Wars, but also with his voice acting as Mufasa in The Lion King in 1994 and 2019. He also played important roles in many famous productions such as Field of Dreams, The Sandlot, Coming to America and Conan the Barbarian.
The legendary actor has won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards, becoming one of the rare EGOT recipients (a group of artists who have won all of these awards).
In 2022, Jones signed the voice rights for Darth Vader, who will appear in Disney Plus’ Obi-Wan Kenobi series, to Ukrainian AI voice company Respeecher, which will allow Jones’ voice to be used in future projects.
We would like to take this opportunity to offer our condolences to all Star Wars fans. Please share your views on the subject with us in the comments.
