London Speculations about an imminent resignation of British Prime Minister Liz Truss have continued to gain momentum. As confirmed by the Prime Minister’s office at 10 Downing Street, the Conservative politician met Thursday lunchtime with Graham Brady, Chair of the Conservative Group’s powerful 1922 Committee. The body is responsible for the election and deselection of party leaders.

If Brady feels the Prime Minister is no longer trusted by her group, she would have to resign. According to the government, the meeting came about at the request of Truss. However, Truss and Brady have already exchanged ideas in the past few days. Nothing is known about the exact background of today’s meeting.

Truss, meanwhile, has threatened opponents from her Conservative party’s parliamentary group with disciplinary action. The government said on Thursday the group leadership would speak to Tory MPs who did not support the government in Wednesday’s vote. Those who did not have a reasonable excuse for doing so would face appropriate disciplinary action.

In this way, Truss wants to bring calm back to her group after chaotic scenes and scuffles broke out among MPs in a vote on fracking on Wednesday, in which it was not clear whether it was also a vote of confidence. Despite the dissenters, the government won the vote.
