SPD is under more pressure – and Scholz undermines expectations

Berlin When Olaf Scholz appeared before the press in the Chancellery on Tuesday evening, expectations were high. So far it has been a used day for the SPD. The Chancellor, it was hoped, would now ensure the liberation. For example, they announce larger arms deliveries to Ukraine.

But Scholz undermines all expectations. After the talks with the other leading NATO heads of government, Scholz busily reports on them. He doesn’t say anything new.

In the social networks, the tenor is disastrous after the performance. What was this press conference for anyway? Even officials with SPD party membership vent their anger. A comrade writes that without people like SPD foreign policy expert Michael Roth, who openly demand more arms deliveries, the SPD would be in a bad way.

The hoped-for liberation doesn’t happen. The SPD and their chancellor could have used it themselves. The Social Democrats are coming under increasing pressure in the Ukraine war.
