So far, intensive care patients could still be moved within Bavaria if there were no beds available on site – but that would only be possible for “a few days”, warned Roland Engehausen, managing director of the Bavarian Hospital Society in the “Augsburger Allgemeine”.
Without tough countermeasures, the number of corona intensive care patients in Bavaria would increase by around 30 percent per week – “so that we will soon no longer have a chance for transfers within the Free State”.
Relocating patients to clinics outside Bavaria is not easy either: “The road to Baden-Württemberg is actually already closed because the clinics there are getting closer to the Bavarian situation,” said Engehausen. “We don’t know whether we’ll be able to bring someone to Hessen in a few weeks. You don’t need to go to Thuringia and Saxony, and in the south of Austria the situation is no better than here. “
The current situation is “as dramatic as it has never been in Bavaria during the entire pandemic,” Engehausen told the newspaper. “It surpasses the worst phase so far between Christmas and New Year last year.”
