Thrilling Ski Course and Competitions

During the recent semester break, the winter sports section of Naturfreunde Leoben hosted a ski course at the Gaal lifts, attracting around 40 enthusiastic children. They enjoyed sunny weather, a delightful doughnut day, and an exhilarating final race that culminated in a grand award ceremony. The highlight of the course was having ÖSV World Cup competitor Tamara Tippler as the instructor, who dedicated her efforts to inspire the young skiers over the four-day event.

Anna Brandner, a talented 14-year-old, celebrated her remarkable victory in the Austria Cup 2025 for the youth/junior class just a weekend prior. She triumphed at her home hill in Eisenerz, securing three victories in all competitions at the Schüler Austria Cup combination and jumping finals.

Bowling and Martial Arts Successes

In the world of sports bowling, the ESV Leoben men’s team showcased their skills by claiming a convincing 5:3 home victory over SKK Steinberg, maintaining their second position in the Austrian Men’s Bundesliga East. Armin Stocker was a standout performer, scoring 582 pins during the match. The team is gearing up for their next competition on March 8 against SKK Loisdorf.

On the martial arts front, KSF Gym Leoben shone at the international Slovak Open Muay Thai tournament held in Trencin, where athletes from eight nations competed. Rebecca Hödl made waves in the under-54 kg category, clinching the gold medal after a series of impressive fights. Artem Khokhlov earned a silver in the under-75 kg category, while Elisabeth Hauzinger finished third in her division after a valiant effort.

In another exciting event, the Beniva team, comprising Valentin Höber, Lea Jansenberger, and Patrick Krinner, brought home a plethora of medals at the Styrian club championships and Special Olympics ski championships in Turnau. Their achievements highlight the effectiveness of their coordinated nutrition and exercise plans at the Down syndrome center in Leoben.

Anna Brandner continued to shine, winning gold medals in both special jumping and Nordic combination at the Austrian Championships in Seefeld, further solidifying her status as a rising star in the sport.

The PSV Leoben team also left a mark recently by winning a total of 13 championship medals over two days in Linz. Among the standout performances, Christa Triebl captured seven medals at the Austrian Masters Championships, showcasing her exceptional talent across multiple events.

Finally, the enthusiasm for cross-country skiing was palpable during the annual club championships held by the Nordic ski team of Naturfreunde Trofaiach on the Kumpenloipe. This event not only served as a competition but also as a celebration of skiing’s popularity among participants of all ages, including inclusion athletes.
