The US military wants to be faster in procurement.

san francisco The US Army, Air Force, Navy and the new Space Force space department are major customers on the global procurement markets. But they have a problem: the historically grown bureaucracy in the military.

Take the Navy, for example: An investigation by the Pentagon has shown that more than 5,000 different battery types are in use, from the barge – a dinghy on a warship – to the aircraft carrier. The Navy therefore only buys small quantities from the individual manufacturers and is therefore not a particularly relevant buyer. Negotiating prices or demanding innovations from companies is therefore difficult.

The US military has now declared war on this fragmentation in all areas and will soon be working like the companies in Silicon Valley: networked, fast and flexible. With the rapid developments in the military field and the increasing number of cyber attacks, new types of armaments and procurement are needed.
