Siemens Energy receives major order from Amprion

Munich The energy technology group Siemens Energy has received a major order for the connection of several wind farms. In total, the lines should bring up to 1.8 gigawatts of power from the German North Sea ashore, as the company announced on Thursday evening.

According to Siemens, the service corresponds to the needs of 1.8 million people and is the largest order for offshore grid connection that Siemens Energy has ever received. The customer is the Dortmund transmission system operator Amprion.

According to Siemens Energy, it is a high three-digit million sum. In industry circles, there is talk of almost one billion euros.

Siemens Energy is supplying two converter platforms at sea and two associated stations on land, including maintenance for ten years. They first convert the alternating current from the wind turbines into direct current, which can be transmitted with fewer losses. On land, it is then converted back into alternating current. The connections are scheduled to go into operation in 2028.
