Dusseldorf Employees are happy about the inflation compensation premium of up to 3,000 euros that companies currently pay out tax-free. But what if the supervisor says in the annual appraisal: “You get the full inflation compensation premium, but no bonus”, or: “This time we will offset the inflation compensation premium against your bonus”? Does an employee have to accept that?

“No,” says Marc Repey. According to the specialist lawyer for labor law, this is a violation of the law: “The personal bonus is a contractually agreed remuneration component that may not be reduced by the employer at will. A boss who decides to voluntarily pay his employees inflation compensation must transfer this amount in addition to their salary.”
