US Senator John Fetterman is being treated in hospital for depression. “John Fetterman has suffered from depression his entire life, but it has only gotten worse in the past few weeks,” the Democrat’s office said on Thursday. The 53-year-old was therefore voluntarily admitted to the Walter Reed Military Hospital in Bethesda near the US capital Washington after medical advice.
Fetterman won the congressional elections in November in the embattled state of Pennsylvania in the election to the US Senate – and thus won a seat in the parliamentary chamber in Washington for his party. The left-wing local politician was considered a special candidate in his party with his tattoos and typical hooded sweatshirt. Fetterman suffered a stroke last year. Republicans had therefore repeatedly attacked him during the election campaign because of his health.
