Dusseldorf The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is increasingly alarmed about the situation at Ukraine’s nuclear power plants. According to the Ukrainian nuclear regulator, communication with the Russian soldiers who now control the Ukrainian nuclear power plant at Zaporizhia is extremely difficult. Trained personnel continue to work at the technical checkpoints of the reactors, but only under the supervision of a Russian commander.

Accordingly alarmed, IAEA boss Rafael Marino expressed: “I am extremely worried.” This does not correspond to the safety concept of the nuclear power plant, since the technical staff must be able to work without restrictions.

In Zaporizhia, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, there are also problems in supplying employees with food, it said. Russian troops attacked and captured the facility on Friday. However, observers could not determine any danger from increased radiation.
