SCHACHNOVELLE – in the cinema from 23 September – bid for exclusive props from the set – a heart for children

The SCHACHNOVELLE, Stefan Zweig’s world bestseller, revolves around a man who survives imprisonment and mental torture with the help of a chess book, was reinterpreted on film under the direction of Philipp Stölzl.

Philipp Stölzl was able to win an impressive cast for SCHACHNOVELLE (in the cinema from 23 September). In addition to the main actor Oliver Masucci, Albrecht Schuch, Birgit Minichmayr and Rolf Lassgård are part of the outstanding ensemble.

Director Philipp Stölz: “Our goal was to create a sensual, intense movie that appeals to a wider audience with a great cast, a dense staging and strong visuals that really fill the screen.”

Literary background: On August 15, 1941, Stefan Zweig and his second wife Lotte left New York by ship. It is also the sea route that is described in the “Chess Novella”: New York-Buenos Aires. The “Schachnovelle”, in which many see a legacy of the author, has a special place within the narrative work because Zweig only once deals with contemporary history, the crimes of National Socialism.
