Pirna – Animal rights activists are stunned, poultry farmers horrified. Hikers discovered seven abandoned chickens in the middle of the forest between Bad Gottleuba and Liebstadt.
Regina Walther (69) from the Pirna Animal Welfare Association: “The disheveled, poor creatures lay emaciated on a pile of rubbish that someone had illegally disposed of in the forest. Starved, without water or shelter, they ate their own feathers. “
They were evacuated to the Pirna animal shelter and lovingly fed with wild bird food in an outdoor enclosure.
Walther: “They bloomed again with us. They have already laid ten eggs for joy. We provide them with places in a sanctuary. There they will have it very well until the end of their lives. “
