Samsung has started work on the 1.4nm processor

Samsung recently made a statement about new production technologies for processors. Planning to switch to 3nm production technology this year, Samsung has given a date for 1.4nm technology.

Samsung, which is the second largest semiconductor manufacturer in the world after TSMC, wants to rise to the first place. The company, which has a 17.3% market share, rolled up its sleeves to reduce TSMC’s 52.9 percent market share.

Commenting on the subject, Daiwa Capital Markets analyst SK Kim said, “This is the first time guiding the SEC’s (Samsung Electronics) long-term semiconductor manufacturing roadmap. I think this event is more aggressive than TSMC and market expectations. As part of Samsung’s plan to surpass TSMC, it needs to triple the production capacity of its most advanced chips between now and 2027.” made statements.

Samsung has announced that it will offer 1.4nm technology to its customers in 2027. However, Samsung underlined that it plans to start mass production for 3nm by the end of 2022.

The company, which will start producing 2nm chips in 2025, will take the competition to the next level. It is worth noting that TSMC has not announced any roadmap for chip production, except for the 2nm production process planned for 2025.

Both TSMC and Samsung stepped up their work for chip manufacturing in the US. Having a chip manufacturing facility in Austin, Samsung started to build a $17 billion facility in order to produce in the Taylor region.
