Samsung has been preparing to introduce its first smart ring, Galaxy Ring, to users for a while. The Galaxy Ring will be launched at the Unpacked event in Paris before its sale begins. But Samsung sued Oura for the Galaxy Ring because it did not want it to sue it. With the lawsuit filed by Samsung, the planned release date of Galaxy Ring was also revealed. Here are the details…
Samsung filed a lawsuit against Oura to prevent it from filing a patent lawsuit over the Galaxy Ring!
Samsung filed a lawsuit against Oura to put an end to intellectual property disputes just days before the Galaxy Ring launch. In fact, as stated in the content of the case, Samsung started this lawsuit process to prevent Oura from suing itself.

The lawsuit alleges that Oura has the authority to file patent lawsuits against its competitors based on features common to nearly all smart rings. Also listed were examples where Oura had previously sued competitors such as Ultrahuman, Circular, and RingConn before entering the US market.
It is stated that Oura also implies that it can do the same thing against Samsung, a much larger company. Oura CEO Tom Hale’s CNBC interview was also cited as an example in the case. Hale says in the interview that the company will monitor the Samsung Galaxy Ring closely and take action as appropriate.
Samsung included several more statements in the lawsuit as examples in which Hale and other executives bragged about the fact that Oura was willing to take action to protect its patents. While Samsung is currently seeking a clarifying decision stating that the Galaxy Ring does not infringe five Oura patents, Oura has initiated this process itself without suing it.
The opening of the case also revealed some curious details about the Galaxy Ring.
Due to the lawsuit, some curious details about the Galaxy Ring, which will be launched soon, have been confirmed. It is now known that the Galaxy Ring hardware design was completed in mid-May and mass production is planned to begin in mid-June. Additionally, the product is expected to go on sale in the US market in August this year.

In the materials published for the case, it was learned that the Samsung Galaxy Ring also includes the Samsung Health application, which displays an energy score feature based on measurements such as sleep, activity, and heart rate variability.
Oura was almost undisputed as the leader of the smart ring market. Samsung’s lawsuit seems to pave the way for both the Galaxy Ring and other small brands to make smart rings. Do you think Samsung’s lawsuit will change this situation?
