Guilded is banned in Russia
Platform administrators made this decision due to the increase in the number of Russian users after Discord was banned. Discord announced that it was officially blocked in Russia on October 8. Russian authorities stated that they made this decision on the grounds that platform administrators did not comply with Russian laws.
Regulator Roskomnadzor requested Discord to remove approximately 900 pieces of allegedly illegal content, but the request was not fulfilled. Discord was also fined in the country last year, but the company did not change its policies.
Guilded, on the other hand, stated that it cut off access for Russia instead of risking being blocked like Discord. This blocking also draws attention as another platform that limits the country’s tightly controlled internet services. It is also thought that Guilded will open an office in Russia and regulate its content policies.
It should be reminded that, after Russia, Turkey also blocked access to Discord. Regarding the issue, the company said, “We are aware of reports that Discord is unavailable in Russia and Turkey. “Our team is currently investigating these reports.”
Regarding Discord, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Turkey Yılmaz Tunç said, “Due to sufficient suspicion that crimes of ‘sexual abuse of children and obscenity’ have been committed, it has been decided to remove all broadcasts from the content and block access to the specified URL addresses from Turkey.”
