The vampire becomes a bat …
Robert Pattinson (34) is the new “Batman” and he’s darker than ever. Warner Bros. has now released the first full trailer for the film, which tells the superhero’s youth story and is due to hit theaters in March 2022.
The trailer begins with a scene in which the police arrest a man in a cafe. The milk in his coffee is swirled into a question mark, the calling card of Batman’s nemesis, The Riddler. The scenery: dark, depressive, dramatic. What follows is pure action!
Beau Pattinson aka Bruce Way chases through Gotham City as a revenge knight in full riot gear, methodically hunt down villains, his bat suit repeatedly ricochets off bullets, the Batmobile survives gigantic crashes and violent explosions, and the comic book hero remains unscathed.
In addition to Pattinson, Hollywood star Colin Farrell (44) can also be seen in the trailer. He embodies the villain Oswald Cobblepot, better known as the penguin. Farrell, however, is hardly recognizable: in his role he has thinning hair, a scarred face and a few pounds more under his belt.
Also there: Zoë Kravitz (32) as Catwoman. Even before the trailer was released, director Matt Reeves (“Planet of the Apes”) revealed for the first time via Twitter what the cat woman will look like in the new superhero film.
The clip is accompanied by dramatic music from the pen of the film composer Michael Giacchino (“Spider-Man: Far From Home”, “Jojo Rabbit”). And as dazzling and smart as Pattinson was as the “Twilight” vampire, this new trailer clearly hints at a sinister and violent version of “Batman”.
Matt Reeves says he was inspired by classic US crime films such as “Chinatown” and “Taxi Driver” for the film. And the shooting was probably pretty tough. In addition to long interruptions due to Corona, including Pattinson himself, there was probably a lot of stress on the set.
Director Reeves is a crazy “control freak” who drove Robert crazy and on the verge of a nervous breakdown. For example, he is said to have made Pattinson repeat his bulky, sweaty “Batman” air scenes up to 50 times.
But it was obviously worth it, because the first longer impression of the bat film is extremely cool!
