Dusseldorf, Berlin The armaments and automotive supplier group Rheinmetall surprisingly opens up a new business area: the booming market for heat pumps. The group will supply a leading German heating manufacturer with a central heat pump component: compressors. This was confirmed to the Handelsblatt from circles within the group.

Compressors, also known as compressors, compress a refrigerant in the heat pump and thus generate heat. They are crucial for the quality of a heat pump, like an engine for a car. This is how several representatives of the heating industry put it. One says: “The compressor is the heart of a heat pump.”

Rheinmetall is to build this heart in the future. The group has received a major order for the manufacture of refrigeration compressors with a volume of 770 million euros. Rheinmetall announced this itself at the end of December 2022. It remained unclear who the customer is – and that the compressors should be installed in heat pumps.
