Republicans’ doubts about Trump opponent DeSantis are growing

National Harbour He calls it three times at the end. “Appreciate it”, “I appreciate it”. What Ron DeSantis appreciates on Friday morning are the standing ovations to which the audience of around 1000 rose after his speech.

They didn’t jump up in the Maryland Ballroom. This would be the wrong audience here at the Gaylord Hotel in National Harbor (Maryland). But the political strategists, activists and financiers present gave him benevolent applause – for an ambitious politician who has read more negative than positive headlines about himself in the past few days, this is probably a welcome signal.

The governor of Florida holds the closing speech at the two-day 50-year celebration of the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation – which is to be regarded as an honor in view of the many potential Republican presidential candidates.
