Berlin Oil and gas heating are still the most common heating systems in Germany. Around half of all apartments are heated with natural gas and a quarter with oil. But the enormously increased prices for fossil fuels and growing pressure from politicians are causing many homeowners to ponder.

“At the moment there are thousands of unsettled owners who don’t know what to do, whether they should replace their old oil or gas heating and, above all, against what,” says North Rhine-Westphalia’s Building Minister Ina Scharrenbach (CDU) the needs of the owners the point.

So how quickly do owners have to react? What help is there for a possible exchange? The fifth part of the Handelsblatt series on the energetic conversion of real estate gives an overview of the most important questions about the future of oil and gas heating.
