Relief package: The federal states set conditions

Berlin Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and the prime ministers of the federal states want to meet shortly to discuss the third relief package of the traffic light coalition. The Handelsblatt received corresponding information from government circles.

When asked, the chairman of the Prime Ministers’ Conference, North Rhine-Westphalia’s Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst, said: “It is the right way that we discuss the situation promptly in a Prime Ministers’ Conference. The states will work together with the federal government to promote a fair and solidary approach to financing the relief package.”
The federal government’s plans would burden North Rhine-Westphalia alone with “at least three to four billion euros,” explained Wüst. Accordingly, he demanded a say. “One thing is certain: anyone who pays must also be able to have a say.”

The CDU politician explained that it was “urgently necessary” to organize “substantial relief” for people with small and medium-sized incomes. But corrections are necessary. “It’s about the accuracy of the aid, not the watering can principle.” The countries are ready to do their part.
