EISENERZ. The children’s ski course, a collaborative effort by the Alpine Club, Nature Friends, Union, and Scouts, reached a remarkable milestone with nearly 90 young participants. Over the course of four days, advanced skiers honed their skills at Präbichl, while beginners had a fantastic time learning at the Erzbergarena. Thanks to the Nordic Training Center Eisenerz and a well-organized practice area, the course maintained a high level of professionalism.
LEOBEN. The first spring round of the men’s Bundesliga East in sports bowling has wrapped up, and ESV Leoben kicked off the year with a stellar performance, defeating league leaders KSK Klagenfurt Magdalensberg 7:1 in a home match. Fabian Schmid stood out as the top bowler for the team, scoring 613 pins. Following this victory, ESV Leoben is now in second place, just three points behind the leaders.
Upcoming matches include the second spring round on Saturday, January 18, at 5 PM away in St. Pölten, and a home game against 1. KSK Gem.Bed.Wiener Neustadt on Saturday, February 1, at 1 PM.
ST. PETER-FREIENSTEIN. The market championship at the stocksport facility of EV St. Peter-Freienstein took place over the Epiphany weekend, featuring 20 teams with eight shooters each competing for three days. The championship title for 2025 was claimed by the EV Gonidorf team led by captain Karl Kvarits, with the Ice Smurfs and the Boys securing second and third places respectively.
EISENERZ. Mike Busse, who began his billiards journey at 14 before transitioning to snooker, recently made waves in the competitive scene. After being discovered by Austrian state champion Florian Nüßle during a tournament in Vorarlberg, Busse was invited to squad training in Vienna. Despite having to withdraw from training due to time restrictions, Busse became the Styrian state champion in December 2023 and successfully defended his title in December 2024, winning all matches 3:0.
LEOBEN/GAAL. The ski course organized by Nature Friends Leoben ran from January 2 to 5 at the Gaal lifts, where nearly 50 children improved their skiing skills under expert supervision. The course concluded with a thrilling final race and fun activities, including a traditional doughnut day and a surprise visit from ‘Mickey Mouse’.
LEOBEN. The Leoben city championships saw around 100 bowlers compete in December at the Kammersäle Donawitz. Organized by the sports club Mayr-Melnhof-Novopan, Tanja Pröll won the women’s category with 553 pins, while Gerhard Plank took the men’s title with 609 pins. Recreational bowlers also had their own rankings, with Monika Prodinger and Herbert Moder emerging victorious.
LEOBEN/ANTALYA. The Antalya Muay Thai Cup, held from December 4 to 8 in Turkey, featured two athletes from KSF Gym Leoben among 538 competitors from 28 countries. Rebecca Hödl delivered a strong performance, reaching the finals and securing a victory over her Turkish opponent, while Elisabeth Hauzinger earned a silver medal after a close match against the reigning European champion from Hungary. Austria finished second in the team rankings, showcasing exceptional talent and preparation.
LEOBEN. Unfortunately, ESV Leoben faced a tough defeat in a catch-up match against KSK Klagenfurt – Magdalensberg, ending in a 1:7 loss. Gerhard Plank was the top performer for ESV Leoben that day with 598 pins. The team will look to bounce back on January 11, 2025, as they continue their campaign in the first spring round.
