Berlin Two of the leading German economic research institutes have raised their growth forecast for 2023. The Institute for the World Economy (IfW) now expects growth of 0.5 percent, as the Kiel economists announced on Wednesday. The Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) increased its forecast to 0.4 percent growth.
Other experts are far more pessimistic. The Ifo Institute is still expecting a recession and expects German economic output to fall by 0.1 percent this year.
The forecasts show that the uncertainty about the economic future is enormous. Whether the economy tips in the direction of growth or recession depends on five factors.
