Really great, man !: Another coming-out in the comic universe!

“I’ve always said that everyone needs heroes and that everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes,” says Tom Taylor, author of the new comic book in the Superman: Son of Kal-El series.

Especially all bisexuals can find themselves here! Because: In the new comic, Superman’s son, Jon Kent, falls in love with the journalist Jay Nakamura.

How now son?

▶ ︎ For everyone who is not that deep into the DC universe: Jon is the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Jon was first featured in July 2015 in Convergence: Superman # 2. In November 2016 he officially took over the role of Superboy. Since July he is now the title character of the “Superman: Son of Kal-El” comic series.

And it is precisely this who is now discovering his bisexual identity, announced the publisher DC Comics on Monday – just in time for International Coming-out Day on October 11th.

The young superhero made friends with the reporter in the previous issue of the comic series. In the new issue, which will appear on November 9, there is finally a kiss between the two men.

The author of the new issue, Tom Taylor, is very grateful that DC and Warner Bros. shared this new idea: “Now even more people can find themselves in the most powerful comic book superhero.”

Comics are becoming more diverse

The artist John Timms is responsible for the drawings in the new issue. He says showing Jon Kent “how he tackles his complex modern life and at the same time saves the world from its greatest dangers, villains and threats,” he feels “immensely honored” for.

The American comics scene has long been in the process of depicting more diversity and different sexual orientations and identities. For example in the “Aquaman” series, where a black, gay hero appears for the first time.

It wasn’t until the beginning of August that Batman’s best friend Robin came out as a bisexual in the comic book “Batman: Urban Legends # 6”. Nothing has been the same since then. Fans all over the world freaked out over this news!

So now the Superman series is following suit and also presents the “B” in LGBTQ.

LGBTQ is the English abbreviation for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer.

According to DC Comics, in the new comic book we are dealing with a Superman who somehow tries to save everyone – and as a result is completely burned out mentally and physically.

And exactly at this moment his friend Jay is there, “to take care of the man of steel”.
