Doing business at the expense of German taxpayers?

Dusseldorf More than 80 police officers, tax investigators and public prosecutors have been searching the German headquarters of the Swedish private bank SEB since Tuesday. Past the Christmas tree in the entrance hall and the Advent wreath on the reception counter, the officers went straight to the filing cabinets and server rooms where they suspected information about the suspects: business at the expense of German taxpayers.

According to Handelsblatt information, the raid is related to the cum-ex scandal, and cum-cum deals are also said to play a role. The deals have already called the tax authorities on the scene, whose claims amount to 425 million euros plus interest. The public prosecutor’s office now wants to get to the bottom of potential criminal offenses, and the investigation should target around a dozen bankers.
