A 58-year-old sex offender from Laval, Steve Martin Dubuc, was arrested for posing as a DJ to lure minors at a radio station. Operating under the alias Stefano Tremblay, he engaged with youth online before being caught by an undercover officer. Dubuc has a long history of sexual crimes and manipulation, including a previous conviction for luring children. Currently in custody, he faces charges for attempting to entice minors and violating parole conditions, with his case returning to court soon.

Sex Offender Caught Posing as a DJ

A notorious sex offender from Laval, who has a history of reoffending immediately after prison release, has recently been apprehended while masquerading as a DJ at a well-known radio station in an attempt to entice minors.

Steve Martin Dubuc, aged 58, is accused of orchestrating a deceitful plan to fulfill his illicit desires. For several months, he operated under the alias Stefano Tremblay on Facebook, engaging with minors through Messenger.

In what he believed to be a conversation with an individual under 16, he was reportedly confronted by an undercover officer. Last week, he faced charges for attempting to lure two minors and violating multiple conditions set by authorities. Laval police, who took him into custody, express concerns that he may have targeted additional victims.

A History of Manipulation and Deceit

Dubuc is characterized as a persistent sexual predator whom the justice system has struggled to contain. He has been classified as a dangerous offender and is subject to stringent conditions imposed by the Parole Board of Canada (PBC), along with a long-term supervision order lasting until 2032.

Beginning his criminal activities at just 19 years old in 1986, Dubuc has demonstrated a troubling pattern of early and diverse criminal behavior, lacking any significant periods of reform. Despite this troubling history, he managed to secure a position as a supervisor at a private secondary school in the Ahuntsic area in 2008.

Using a fake female identity, he engaged with students online, coercing teenagers into performing sexual acts via webcam under threats to damage their reputations if they refused. In 2011, he was sentenced to three years in prison for harassment, sexual contact, and luring children.

The PBC has highlighted Dubuc’s lack of remorse, noting his manipulative tendencies and ability to create false identities to achieve his aims. For over a decade, his narcissistic and antisocial behavior has led to repeated incarcerations, with each release resulting in further offenses.

Throughout his years of criminal activity, he has faced multiple convictions for possession and distribution of child pornography, as well as for violating his conditions. Notably, he once ventured into a restricted area while wearing an electronic monitoring device and exchanged the names of young minors with another sex offender for monetary gain.

Even while incarcerated, Dubuc’s behavior remained problematic. He attempted to communicate with one of his victims through a letter, which was intercepted by her mother. Additionally, he made obscene phone calls to children during his time in detention.

Currently, Dubuc is being held in custody as the Crown opposes his release. His case is scheduled to return to court on Thursday.
