Qualcomm, one of the largest chipset providers in the smartphone market, acquired the aptX codec naming rights in 2015. According to the information announced, Qualcomm will make the standard and HD versions of aptX open source. However, it has been announced that it will not include more advanced versions of aptX, such as aptX Adaptive and the rarely used low-latency version of aptX.
Commenting on the subject, the company said, “A few months ago, we made the decision to include encoders for classic aptX and aptX HD in the Android Open Source Project. We’re excited to say that these encoders are indeed available under AOSP under the current agreements, under a Qualcomm license. According to our normal business processes, aptX licensing will remain unchanged, except that aptX and aptX HD encoders are added to AOSP.” made statements.
