Frankfurt Actually, the tax return is not rocket science. In the simplest case, employees only have to fill out a single form. But such forms multiply quickly, here one for capital gains, there one for special expenses, one for extraordinary burdens and then maybe another one for the children.

It’s no wonder that many taxpayers prefer to let the professionals do it right away and hire a tax consultant or wage tax association – especially if they are self-employed or run a company, because in these cases the requirements are much more complex.

And sometimes the professional also helps for very practical reasons. If you missed the deadline of July 31 (for 2021: September 30) for your tax return without help, you risk a late fee of at least 25 euros per month exceeded.

On the other hand, if you submit your tax return with the help of a consultant, you have until the end of February of the following year to do so. For the 2021 declaration, the latest deadline for submission with a consultant is June 30, 2023.
