In this context, total production in the first month of the year increased by 24 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 111 thousand 837 units, while automobile production increased by 48 percent to 70 thousand 723 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production reached 116,730 units. Automotive exports, on the other hand, increased by 17 percent on unit basis compared to the same month of 2022 and reached 79 thousand 381 units. Automotive Industry Association (OSD), which is the umbrella organization of the sector with its 13 largest members that steer the Turkish automotive industry, has announced the production and export numbers and market data for January 2023. In January, total production increased by 24 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 111 thousand 837 units, while automobile production increased by 48 percent to 70 thousand 723 units.   • Commercial vehicle market increased by 51 percent

In the first month of the year, commercial vehicle production decreased by 4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. While production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 56 percent in January, the production in the light commercial vehicle group decreased by 8 percent. In this period, while the production of commercial vehicles carrying cargo and passengers decreased by 4 percent, tractor production increased by 36 percent to 4,893 units. Looking at the market, compared to January 2022, the commercial vehicle market increased by 51 percent, the light commercial vehicle market increased by 49 percent, and the heavy commercial vehicle market increased by 62 percent.

  • Market is above 10-year averages

In January, the total market increased by 35 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 53 thousand 509 units. In January, the automobile market grew by 29 percent and reached 37 thousand 288 units. Looking at the averages of the last 10 years, in January 2022, the total market increased by 55 percent, the automobile market by 51 percent, the light commercial vehicle market by 67 percent and the heavy commercial vehicle market by 67 percent. In January, the share of domestic vehicles in the automobile market was 31 percent, while the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 44 percent.

  • There is a 17 percent increase in total exports!

Automotive exports in January increased by 17 percent on unit basis compared to the same month of 2022 and amounted to 79 thousand 381 units. Automobile exports, on the other hand, increased by 46 percent to 51 thousand 122 units. In the same period, tractor exports increased by 25 percent and were recorded as 1,718 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), automotive industry exports ranked first with a 14 percent share in total exports in January.

  • 2.8 billion dollars of exports were made

In January, compared to the same month of the previous year, total automotive exports increased by 23 percent in dollar terms and 29 percent in euro terms. In this period, total automotive exports amounted to $2.8 billion, while automobile exports increased by 40 percent to $874 million. In Euro terms, automobile exports increased by 48 percent to 811 million Euros. In the same period, exports of the main industry increased by 26 percent in dollar terms, while exports of the supply industry increased by 20 percent.
