President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke about cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology at the blockchain summit organized by the AK Party Information and Communication Technologies Presidency at the Istanbul University Cemil Bilsel Conference Hall.
“We cannot ignore this potential while we are preparing for the Century of Turkey,” said Erdogan, giving the message that “we want to be the country that uses this tool.”
Addressing the youth, Erdogan described trading in cryptocurrencies as gambling and said “focus on blockchain technology”.
Some of Erdogan’s statements were as follows:
“Digital assets are the fuel of technology and blockchain is the vehicle of technology.
What makes its wide field of activity attractive is its fast and low-cost transaction capability. It is clear that we cannot ignore this potential while making preparations for the Turkish Century. We want to be the country that uses this tool. Instead of taking part in the virtual universe opened by others, we seek to establish our own universe.
The decentralized registration and assurance opportunities provided by blockchain technology have the potential to radically change the current commercial system.
We closely monitor the activities of our private sector in the field of blockchain. In the coming period, we will continue to implement projects that will contribute to our country in this field.
Cryptocurrency related work is being carried out within the body of the Central Bank. It carries out activities related to its own fields in the relevant ministries.
I advise our young people to turn to blockchain technology instead of turning to crypto money gambling that has no basis.”
