Powell, who was in front of the cameras after the FED decision, answered the questions of the journalists. Answering questions about digital currencies (CBDC) issued by the Central Bank, Powell made important statements about the digital dollar.
Stating that they have not made a choice about CBDC yet, the president stated that they continue to work on CBDCs in the context of business technology and public policy.
Reiterating that they will not act hastily on the digital dollar in parallel with their previous statements, Powell said, “It is more important to do it right than to do it quickly.”
Powell stated that he does not agree with the views that they are lagging behind other countries on CBDC.
Underlining that the decision to be made about the digital dollar is not only about them, the president stated that this will be a government-wide decision and that a common mind should be acted upon after the negotiations between the administration and the congress.
