London Britain’s Conservative government isn’t getting out of the negative headlines: the MPs’ code of conduct compliance officer has launched an investigation into Prime Minister Risih Sunak.

According to an entry on the website of Parliament in London on Monday, it is about an alleged failure to declare a conflict of interest. British MPs, for example, must declare additional income from a sum of 100 pounds (around 113 euros).

In this specific case, it is said to be about shares that Sunak’s wife Akshata Murty holds in a childcare agency. This was reported by the PA news agency, citing an unnamed government source. Murty’s agency is set to benefit from a proposed government measure. Whether Sunak violated the code of conduct has not yet been determined and is part of the investigation.

It wouldn’t be the first time Sunak has faced difficulties over his wife’s financial interests. The couple made headlines last year when it was revealed Murty benefited from a special legal status that allowed her to pay taxes in India instead of the UK.

At the time, she held a 0.9 percent stake worth around £500million in the software company Infosys, which her father co-founded, according to the BBC. According to estimates, Murty saved millions in taxes in Great Britain. Sunak was finance minister at the time. His wife gave up the special status after it became known.
