Podcast Handelsblatt Green: Wind energy – That’s why the expansion is stuck

Dusseldorf Wind energy is set to become the most important energy source of the future. But the expansion of wind power in Germany has come to a standstill in recent years. In order to achieve the climate goals, significantly more wind turbines would have to be set up here.

The reasons for the far too slow expansion have been known for a long time: Permits often take years, minimum distances to settlements have been determined politically, but above all more and more local residents are resisting wind power. They don’t want the more than 200-meter-high turbines on their doorstep. That’s why this problem is also called “Not in my backyard”.

With numerous initiatives and new laws, the federal government now wants to ensure that the expansion goes faster again. In case of doubt, nature conservation should also take a step back. But that is exactly what annoys many opponents of wind power even more.

In the new episode of Handelsblatt Green we talk to opponents of wind power, companies and experts about the problems of expansion and we want to know how they could be solved.
