Between June and July 2024, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium services took a big hit, despite offering better games. According to TrueTrophies.com, there was a 48 percent decrease in player numbers during this period. Even without taking into account the Days of Play games offered in June, there was an 18 percent loss in July. This was the lowest month for PlayStation Plus services in 2024.
PlayStation Plus subscribers dropped by 48 percent in July
In July 2024, PlayStation Plus saw a major drop despite offering players a significant offer. The most notable game of the month was Remnant 2, which was the third highest debut on the service. While Dave the Diver, which was released in April, still tops the list, the significant drop in player numbers in July stands out as one of the weakest months of 2024. The fact that Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion was released alongside Remnant 2 makes it even more surprising that July saw such a low player count.
Remnant 2 was the best-performing game offered via PlayStation Plus in July. Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion also performed well, but saw a 69.05 percent decrease in the number of players spending time on the game. Aside from these two games, other games offered in July were quite weak. Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, Job Simulator, and Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters were also offered to players, but they were not able to prevent the decline.
PlayStation Plus’s big drop in July suggests that future gaming offerings and strategies need to be reevaluated. Sony needs to do more to stop the churn and make the service more appealing. It’s crucial to regain the interest of gamers, especially by offering popular and high-performance games.
