Pirated broadcasting problem at 2024 Paris Olympics
Torrent sites, which have been a major problem in previous Olympics, have taken a backseat this year. TorrentFreak analyzed the DMCA takedown notices and found that there were no torrent sites in this category. However, there were many social media accounts and websites that were broadcasting pirated content.
Pirated live broadcasts pose a major threat to sports events. These sites, which affect users by receiving illegal advertisements, can also commit fraud through illegal betting.
The IOC is working with anti-piracy company Friend MTS to detect violating links in Google Search. It has issued dozens of takedown notices during and after the Olympics opening ceremony. It should also be noted that it is working with Google in this regard.
Many users cannot access broadcasts abroad due to geographical restrictions. In this regard, they can choose VPN services. However, it should be emphasized that watching official channels with a VPN is not legal.
