Passive IoT transition has started with the cooperation of Huawei and Turkcell!

Turkcell and Huawei have achieved significant success within the scope of their collaboration in the field of new generation 5.5G technology. The Passive IoT (Ambient IoT) solution, implemented for inventory counting in Turkcell warehouses, took its place among the first applications implemented worldwide in this field.

Passive IoT, as its name suggests, provides its energy by “harvesting energy” not from sources such as traditional batteries, but from sources such as magnetic power in its environment. This offers great advantages, especially for sectors such as agriculture, supply and logistics.

Because Passive IoT-supported sensors have the capacity to operate for years without needing any energy source. In this way, operations such as product stock tracking, temperature and humidity measurement can be carried out much more easily and economically. Thanks to low-cost modules, the usage area of Passive IoT technology is expected to become widespread rapidly.

Turkcell Deputy General Manager Responsible for Network Technologies Prof. Dr. Vehbi Çağrı Güngör stated that this new technology has the potential to revolutionize logistics and supply chain management.

He also said that thanks to Passive IoT, real-time data collection has become possible with low cost and energy consumption. Additionally, Huawei’s Turkcell Group Director Steven Shang stated that Passive IoT is a game-changing technology and will be rapidly adopted by different sectors.

Passive IoT technology moves mobile connectivity from high-speed active solutions to ultra-low-speed passive solutions. This technology can be used not only for data transmission, but also for different purposes such as positioning and temperature sensors. It is possible to use Passive IoT technology in many areas such as automatic storage inventory, agricultural and livestock applications, and positioning of personal belongings.

Among the advantages of passive IoT, sustainability comes first. This technology, which minimizes environmental impact by reducing battery usage, also offers great advantages in terms of scalability and widespread use. Since it is not battery dependent, it enables the device to be used in a much wider range of environments and in harsh conditions.

Turkcell and Huawei broke new ground in Turkey by reaching 10 Gbps data speed using 5.5G technology in February. With this successful cooperation, the two companies enable Turkey to take important steps towards digitalization. As a matter of fact, we started to see the steps.
