London London police fine British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak. The reason is her participation in parties in government buildings during the strict corona lockdown in Great Britain, as a government spokeswoman confirmed to the British news agency PA on Tuesday.

In the “Partygate” affair about lockdown celebrations in Downing Street, the police have already ordered more than 50 fines. Efforts are being made to advance the ongoing investigation as quickly as possible, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police. Further notifications could follow.

At the end of March, 20 penalties had already been imposed, and since then around 30 more have been added. In most cases, it is said to be a fine of 50 pounds (60 euros).

The “Partygate” affair had put Prime Minister Johnson under heavy pressure. He also had to defend himself against calls for his resignation from within his Conservative Party, as he is said to have tolerated parties at his headquarters and attended some of them. Since the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Johnson has been back in the saddle.
