More than “$700 billion in private investment” has been boosted by his legislation, US President Joe Biden said in his State of the Union address on Tuesday. “But we are also building something else,” he continued: “Pride”.

It was a confident, combative message that Biden delivered. The US is “better positioned than any other country in the world” when it comes to inflation and energy prices. His speech could also be seen as a selling point for a possible second term. Because in Washington it is expected that the 80-year-old will soon announce his candidacy for the 2024 presidential elections.

In the face of a divided Congress, Biden’s Democrats have not been able to initiate many laws since this year. The US President therefore emphasized the implementation of reforms that had already been decided.
